They couldn't even bother to manufacture a real OBI strip...

Sounds nice and clean. Not super warm, but still a great listen nonetheless. You can’t beat it for the price.

Is this release numbered since there are only 2200 copies pressed for RSD?

This release is not numbered.I have heard the OG, which prompted me to seek the true Direct Disk release. Most are from overseas with expensive shipping which has kept me away from ordering one. This RSD version is probably sourced from a digital remaster, but for the price a good listen. Would still grab an OG if the planets aligned.

I’ve compared this press to my brothers OG and there is little difference. OG is slightly warmer, but not massively. This is an amazing take: 15mins of ‘I thought it was you’ worth the admission price alone.

My pressing is great. The gatefold is very nice and authentic. There are a few minor ticks/pops here and there (though nothing repetitive), but most records these days have that. Most importantly, it sounds excellent. I can't complain. Glad I picked up this one. Been waiting years for it!

This pressing is a conundrum, but I'm enjoying every minute of it.

Don't let the "replica" OBI strip fool you on this release. While the first pressings of this albums were indeed direct to disk albums, this one is not. The old mother/father plates were not used to make a new set of stampers - it's a Wes Garland job from NRP. Basically that means this is the same low grade crap Get on Down have been releasing from day one. If you care about quality one iota, do not buy this crap. Not a direct to disk release, full stop. Tapes? If you think this label sources actual reels for their releases you are dreaming. It's just another low grade reissue done by a label that does lots of low grade reissues.

I don't have the reissue but I do have a mint OG. The OP doesn't know anything. There would always have been a tape machine rolling simultaneously. Pure good protocol. That is where the many DD recordings from the analog era got transferred to CD.

I don't know how many people are all that worked up about the fact this isn't an exact replica pressed from the original plates. The important thing is the music, and this RSD reissue was an opportunity to get a record I've wanted for years at an affordable price. As far as Get On Down producing "low grade crap" goes, I can only speak to my own experience, but the three LPs I have from them have all been fine. My copy of this particular album is clean, flat, centered, and noise free, and while I acknowledge an original pressing may sound superior, this reissue sounds perfectly fine.

Regardless of source this thing exceeded my expectations SQ wise. If you can find at a reasonable price I recommend it for sure.

I'll second this; I was a little worried about what the quality would be, but I listened to it earlier and it had a nice full/clear sound. I'm not sure what the exact mastering process was, but I think it's worth picking up if you're a fan of the music

Edowa Shimizu played "I Thought It Was You" from start to finish at The Loft on 10-Aug-2019. Completely mind-blowing on that setup and blasting across seven custom Klipschorns. Before that I was only familiar with the shorter cut off the Sunlight album. Shortly after I had to go ask him what version it was that he played. It is really unfortunate that this hasn't been pressed since 1979? Someone please fix that.
