Short intro

Between the Times and the Tides is the ninth studio album by the American alternative rock musician Lee Ranaldo, released on March 20, 2012 on Matador Records. His first release on Matador Records and since Sonic Youth's indefinite hiatus, the album features a more straightforward songwriting approach to his prior material and includes guest musicians such as Nels Cline, John Medeski and Leah Singer. The album was originally intended to be a minimalist acoustic album but its sound was developed by. On his solo album Between the Times and the Tides, he expands on those qualities in his music and reveals new ones, inviting friends including Alan Licht, Steve Shelley, Jim O'Rourke, and Nels Cline along to help. Some of these songs could have been fine additions to a Sonic Youth album, particularly Xtina as I Knew Her which, with its expansive swath and dark, dissonant solos swirling around the plainspoken clarity of his vocals, comes the closest to Ranaldo's work with the band. The compositions on Between the Tides and the Times are still loose and slightly messy but restrained and tweaked enough to let Ranaldo really flex his songwriting muscles and shine. Bottom line a real treat for fans frustrated to see Ranaldo always restricted to a backing presence on all but one or two songs in the Sonic Youth cannon memorable as they are, and a more than satisfying stopgap for fans still mourning the split of Thurston and Kim and the murky, uncertain future of their beloved SY. A classic gig that cuts through livecast Working Mens Club are one of most exciting bands in the UK who transcend these times and the tech to deliver a dark death disco perfection. According to recent admissions Lee Ranaldo has never been a prolific songwriter, only in the last couple of years tapping into the resources necessary to populate a record of this sort. As someone increasingly mindful with each passing year since 1996, that I need to ready Skip Tracer on New Years Eve 2014, it was always going to be difficult for this album to live up to, let alone exceed, my expectations. Album of the Week. But in spite of the chatter about Gordon, Moore and, concomitantly, the future of their quartet, there's another 2012 Sonic Youth story worth attention: This week, co-founder Lee Ranaldo released Between the Times and the Tides, a 10-song set that grew from a batch of acoustic ideas into a full-band production featuring Wilco's Nels Cline, Sonic Youth's. Steve Shelley, jazz-and-jam organist John Medeski, guitarist Alan Licht, and former bandmate Jim O'Rourke. This isn't Ranaldos first solo album. Apart from a busy Sonic Youth schedule, the guitarist's been releasing quiet bits of acoustic music and field recordings or bursts of noise since the late 1980s. Sonic Youth guitarist Lee Ranaldo presents his first proper, song-oriented studio album. Recorded with longstanding Sonic Youth producer John Agnello, the album is a shimmering and melodic tapestry of rock sounds. But that is really one of the only minor subtractions that can be made against Between The Times And The Tides, an otherwise refreshing album that hits most of the buttons that draw people to Ranaldo in the first place. Contrarily, from its opening notes BTTATT suggests otherwise, as the familiar chug of Waiting On A Dream has the same propulsive chime and ever-so-slight Eastern drone that later period SY album offerings like Rats had. Complete sua coleção de Lee Ranaldo. I'm less of a fan of Kim's output, and before this album, I didn't know much about Lee Ranaldo's solo work and there is a huge amount of it at all. Now I've taken a first chance on this album, I'm thrilled. The record is a cracker, and one I listen to on vinyl at least once a month not bad considering it competes with over 400 others' attention on the platter
